The Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has published a comprehensive warning regarding a significant wave of fraudulent online trading platforms operating illegally. According to consumer complaints, these illicit operators employ aggressive marketing tactics, deceptive software funnels, and sophisticated impersonation schemes to defraud unsuspecting investors.
The fraudulent scheme typically begins with fabricated advertisements across social media and online video platforms. These ads frequently misuse the names and likenesses of celebrities or well-known figures promoting get-rich-quick methods, automated trading software, or cryptocurrency investment courses. In other instances, operators make contact via dating applications, fake social media profiles, and private messaging groups on WhatsApp and Telegram. Certain entities also implement multi-level affiliate structures resembling pyramid schemes.
Once potential victims register their contact details or download mobile applications, boiler-room fraudsters contact them by phone with high-pressure investment proposals in equities, virtual currencies, and alternative assets. To fabricate legitimacy, these fraudulent operators falsely claim to be regulated by fictitious supervisory authorities. Scammers also persuade victims to install remote-desktop software, allowing operators to directly hijack computers and initiate unauthorized banking transfers.
When victims attempt to withdraw their funds or accumulated profits, the fraudsters claim that withdrawals are blocked until additional fees, taxes, or security deposits are paid. Once payments cease, the operators vanish, leaving victims unable to recover their capital.
The FSMA identified several deceptive trading software and training websites used as lead funnels to redirect consumers to fraudulent trading platforms: Bitcoineer (btceer.com, bitcoineer-official.com), Admirria (admirria.com, admirria.tech), Immediate Alpha (immediatealphaapp.com, immediate-alpha-app.com), Immediate Bitwave (immediatebitwave.com), and Traderai (traderai.me, traderai.io).
