The Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has issued an urgent warning to investors regarding a fresh wave of fraudulent online trading platforms. These deceptive operators use aggressive marketing and false promises of quick, easy earnings to lure consumers into sophisticated financial schemes that result in substantial capital loss.
According to the regulator, fraudsters deploy a wide range of contact methods to initiate communication with prospective victims. These include fake celebrity endorsement advertisements, dedicated recruitment websites, fraudulent profiles on social media and dating apps (such as Tinder, Bumble, and Happn), unsolicited text messages or WhatsApp chats pretending to be sent by accident, and invitations from acquaintances promising unrealistic returns.
Once an investor expresses interest, they are typically directed to register on an illicit platform and make an initial deposit, frequently around 250 euros. In some instances, scammers request remote access to the victim's computer or mobile device under the guise of providing technical assistance, which creates risks of malware or spyware infection. After receiving funds, the platforms fabricate profits on manipulated dashboards to simulate successful trading. The perpetrators then apply intense psychological pressure via repeated phone calls, artificial time constraints, and even intimidation to demand larger sums.
When victims attempt to withdraw their funds, the operators block requests using pretexts such as mandatory tax payments or exorbitant administrative fees. The FSMA also highlighted that several of these operations rely on pyramid or Ponzi structures, where funds from new recruits are used to pay earlier participants until the scheme inevitably collapses and the operators vanish with the remaining capital.

Steps for Victims:
If you have transferred money to any of these unauthorized platforms, immediately stop all transactions and sever communication. Contact your bank or financial institution at once to report fraudulent payments. File formal complaints with the FSMA and your local police department, ensuring you preserve all relevant evidence, such as account statements, screenshots, emails, and chat logs.
Investors must also beware of follow-up 'recovery room' scams, in which fraudsters pose as legal or recovery experts offering to retrieve lost funds for an upfront fee.
