The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) of Belgium has issued a public warning regarding a new surge of fraudulent trading platforms operating online. These deceptive websites lure consumers with promises of fast, effortless profits, masking sophisticated investment scams that frequently lead to severe financial losses.
According to the FSMA, operators of these schemes rely on diverse solicitation tactics to contact potential victims. Common entry points include deceptive advertisements featuring unauthorized celebrity likenesses, specialized recruiter websites, fake dating profiles on apps such as Tinder, Bumble, or Happn, unsolicited SMS and WhatsApp messages disguised as accidental contacts, and member-referral schemes. In each scenario, prospective investors are lured by unrealistic returns promised in exceptionally short periods.
Once lured in, victims typically make an initial modest deposit, such as 250 euros. In several reported instances, scammers offer assistance by requesting remote access to the victim's computer. This allows fraudsters to execute unauthorized bank transfers directly and install spyware or malicious software. After funds are deposited, the platforms display fabricated trading interfaces showing fictitious profits to build false confidence. Fraudsters then apply aggressive pressure tactics, continuous phone calls, limited-time offers, or threats to coerce investors into depositing additional funds.
When victims attempt to withdraw their funds, the platforms block access. Scammers fabricate demands for high fees, advance taxes, or administrative charges to prevent payouts. The regulator also noted that several operations employ pyramid or Ponzi structures, using funds from new recruits to pay token amounts to earlier participants before eventually collapsing and disappearing with all invested capital.
The FSMA identified two specific intermediary and lead-generation websites directing consumers to fraudulent platforms:

Investors must also stay vigilant against recovery room scams, where secondary fraudsters contact previous victims offering to recover stolen funds in exchange for upfront fees.
