Belgium's Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has published an urgent warning alerting consumers to the activities of unauthorized lenders operating fraudulent credit schemes. The regulator identified 26 fraudulent providers targeting consumers via the internet, unsolicited emails, and social media platforms such as Facebook and WhatsApp. According to the authority, fraudsters take advantage of consumers seeking financing by presenting fake credit offers designed to extort upfront fees. The perpetrators frequently claim to be authorized lenders or registered credit intermediaries, often using the names and logos of established financial institutions in what constitutes 'cloned firm' fraud. They attract applicants by advertising substantial loan amounts at unrealistically low interest rates without performing credit checks. Once an individual engages with the offer, the scammers demand advance payments under various pretexts, including loan default insurance premiums, administrative costs, authentication fees, or file handling expenses. These charges are entirely fictitious. As soon as the victim transfers the requested funds, the operators cease communication, making recovery of the money nearly impossible. The FSMA listed the following websites and entities operating without required authorization: - Abis Finance (www.abisfinance.com) - Alenas Finance (www.alenasfinance.com) - Alenas Services (www.alenas-services.com) - Bridge groep (www.bridgegroep.com) - Financien Dessers (Clone) (www.financiendessers.com, www.financiendessersbe.com) - Finaria group (www.finariagroup.com) - First lenen (www.firstlenen.com, www.firstlening.com) - Geld Group Dienst (www.geld-groupdienst.com) - Granon Service (www.granon-service.com) - Horee Group (www.horee-group.com) - Hovyxa (www.hovyxa.com) - Imperix Service (www.imperix-service.com) - Euro Financiering (www.krediet.pro) - Lasne Finance (Clone) (www.lasne-finance.be) - Optia Banking (www.optiabanking.com) - Optima Credit (www.optima-cred.com) - Optima Finanz (www.optimafinanz.com) - Paradis Services (www.paradis-services.com) - Zebrov (www.zebrov.com) - Zeker lenen (www.zekerlenen.com) Additionally, several unauthorized entities operate directly via social media or email without dedicated websites, including Aides financières, Groep Finanz Expert, Lumia Bank, Online leningen.be, Snelle Online Lening, and Vlaamskrediet. The regulator advises consumers to remain vigilant against unsolicited credit proposals, avoid lenders that require upfront payments before releasing funds, and independently verify registration and licensing status on official regulatory registries before entering into any financial commitments.
