The Belgian Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has issued a warning alerting the public against fraudulent investment offers promoted as alternatives to traditional savings accounts. Scammers are targeting consumers with promises of unusually high returns on alternative investments, including precious metals and cryptocurrencies, with the sole aim of stealing victims' savings.
According to reports received by the FSMA, fraudulent operators typically contact potential victims via telephone and email. These solicitations often originate from misleading online advertisements placed on social media platforms or fabricated news websites. The regulator reminds investors that alternative investment schemes fall under financial market regulations and cannot be lawfully marketed without proper authorization.
The FSMA specifically identified two unauthorized entities operating without the required licenses to provide investment services in Belgium:
- Estoque Invest (operating via estoque-invest.com)
- Ezio Capital (operating via eziocapital.com)
Because neither entity is authorized to offer financial services in Belgium, the FSMA strongly advises against responding to any offers from Estoque Invest or Ezio Capital and warns against making any payments or money transfers to accounts associated with them.
To avoid investment fraud, the regulator urges consumers to thoroughly verify the identity, country of establishment, and registered office of any investment provider before committing funds. Investors should always consult regulatory registries to confirm whether a firm holds valid licenses and remain cautious of clone firms that impersonate legitimate organizations. Individuals who suspect fraudulent activity or have lost money are advised to notify the FSMA and file a report with local law enforcement or judicial authorities.
