The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) of Belgium has issued an official warning regarding the operations of Derwent Investments, accessible via the website derwentinv.com. According to the regulatory watchdog, Derwent Investments is not authorized to provide investment services within Belgium. The FSMA strongly advises the public not to respond to any financial offers made by Derwent Investments and warns against transferring money to any bank account details provided by the company. The FSMA indicates that information in its possession points to potentially fraudulent operations, specifically boiler room fraud. In this type of scheme, fraudsters typically reach out to consumers without prior contact, often through cold calls, presenting offers to buy shares or access other financial products. The range of services pitched by such operators has broadened to include wealth management, fixed-term accounts, investment advice, and crowdfunding projects. While boiler rooms attempt to present an image of legitimacy using professional-looking websites and corporate forms, the services they promote are fictitious or worthless. Victims are commonly drawn in with an initial small investment that appears to yield rapid profits, leading the operators to pressure them into depositing increasingly large sums of money. When investors attempt to withdraw their capital, they are met with demands for additional payments, ultimately losing their funds entirely. The regulator urges investors to exercise extreme caution and verify whether financial service providers are duly authorized before committing any capital.
