The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) of Belgium has issued a formal warning to the public concerning the unauthorized activities of Derwent Investments, operating online via https://derwentinv.com/.
According to the regulatory authority, Derwent Investments is not an authorized investment firm in Belgium. As a result, it is not legally permitted to offer financial or investment services to Belgian consumers. The FSMA strongly cautions individuals against responding to any offers made by Derwent Investments and advises against sending money to any bank accounts associated with the company.
The regulator notes that information in its possession indicates that Derwent Investments may be engaging in boiler room fraud. This scam model typically involves contacting prospective victims unsolicited, frequently by phone, to sell shares, term deposits, managed accounts, investment advice, crowdfunding investments, or other financial products.
Although boiler room operations present themselves as legitimate financial providers through sophisticated websites and formal documentation, they offer fictitious or worthless products. Typically, victims are lured in with a modest initial investment that quickly displays fabricated profits. The operators then exert heavy pressure on the consumer to deposit significantly higher amounts. When a client attempts to withdraw money, the firm demands additional fees or reports sudden investment losses, ultimately preventing the victim from recovering any funds.
The FSMA reminds consumers to remain vigilant against unsolicited financial solicitations and to check regulatory registers before committing funds to any investment platform.
