Belgium's Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) has issued an official warning regarding an unauthorized entity operating unlawfully in Belgium. Scammers have been actively impersonating OGESIP Invest, an institutional open-ended investment company (SICAV) under Belgian law owned by OGEO Fund, an authorized occupational pension institution. The regulatory authority emphasized that the genuine OGESIP Invest does not possess or operate an official website. Despite this, fraudsters established a deceptive website at https://www.ogesip-investment.com/, illegally misusing the corporate identity, name, and contact details of the legitimate firm without authorization. This fraudulent operation represents a classic cloned firm scheme. In clone scams, unauthorized actors appropriate the credentials and reputable status of regulated financial institutions to falsely convince investors that they are dealing with an authorized firm providing legitimate, regulated financial services. The FSMA strongly advises the public against engaging with financial offers originating from this fraudulent entity and warns against sending money to any bank accounts associated with it. To prevent becoming a victim of clone scams, the regulator reminds investors to independently verify the identity, headquarters, and authorization status of financial intermediaries using official registers. Investors should also carefully compare contact details, inspect website creation dates, and beware of slightly altered domain names and unsolicited investment promises with disproportionate returns.
