The Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) of Belgium has issued a formal warning against an unauthorized entity operating unlawfully in the country by impersonating the legitimate firm OGESIP Invest.
According to the financial regulator, fraudsters are falsely presenting themselves as OGESIP Invest, an institutional open-ended investment company (SICAV/bevek) under Belgian law owned by OGEO Fund, a regulated Belgian occupational pension institution. The FSMA clarified that the authentic OGESIP Invest does not operate a website.
The scammers have stolen the identity and contact details of OGESIP Invest and established a fraudulent clone website at https://www.ogesip-investment.com/ without permission. The operators behind this unauthorized platform do not hold any license or authorization to offer financial products or services in Belgium.
This scheme is classified as a "cloned firm" scam, where malicious actors hijack the name, corporate details, or registration information of a fully authorized financial institution. The objective is to mislead consumers into believing they are dealing with a legitimate, regulated entity.
The FSMA strongly advises the public against responding to any financial offers made by individuals associated with this website and warns against transferring money to any bank accounts provided by them.
To avoid falling victim to clone firm scams, the FSMA recommends that investors always independently verify the identity, corporate address, and licensing status of any financial service provider. Investors should confirm whether contact details match those on official regulatory registers, search for duplicate or recently created domain names, and remain skeptical of any investment promises offering unrealistic returns.
