The UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned that operators of five websites are impersonating authorised firm Citibank UK Limited to persuade people that they are dealing with a genuine financial business. The FCA says the firms behind cg-wealth-services.com, cb-group.uk, citigroupadmin.com, citigroup-invest.com and citigroup-eu.com are not authorised by it and have no connection with Citibank UK Limited. The FCA warning lists telephone numbers 020 7971 1491, 020 2819 13345 and 020 3582 6861, and email addresses [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] and [email protected]. The notice also lists citigroup-eu.com as a website and [email protected] under website details. The regulator cautions that scammers may use other contact information, change their details or mix false details with those of an authorised firm. The genuine firm named in the warning is Citibank UK Limited, FCA Firm Reference Number 805574, at Citigroup Centre, 33 Canada Square, London, E14 5LB. The FCA gives its telephone number as +44 800 005 500 and its email address as [email protected]. It says people who deal with the clone will not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service for complaints or protection from the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if the firm fails. Anyone approached should check the FCA Firm Checker and contact the authorised firm using the details listed there, rather than replying through unexpected messages. People who believe they have encountered a clone can report it to the FCA on 0800 111 6768 or through its contact form. The FCA also says payments sent to a scam account on or after 7 October 2024 may be covered by protections introduced by the Payment Systems Regulator.
