The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued an official warning concerning the website smartpaynet.com, identifying it as a fraudulent clone firm operating in the UK without authorization. Clone firms are operated by fraudsters who steal the names, reference numbers, and corporate details of legitimate, regulated entities to deceive investors into believing they are dealing with an authorized business. In this instance, smartpaynet.com has been unlawfully impersonating the FCA-authorized firm MONEY COMPASS LIMITED. According to the regulator, the clone entity operates via the website smartpaynet.com and uses the email address [email protected]. Fraudsters behind this operation may also provide additional misleading contact details, including altered phone numbers, postal addresses, and regulatory identifiers. The genuine firm, MONEY COMPASS LIMITED (FCA Reference Number: 480594), based in Pinner, United Kingdom, has no association whatsoever with the website smartpaynet.com. Investors who engage with unauthorized entities like smartpaynet.com lose access to crucial consumer safeguards, including the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). The FCA strongly advises the public to verify all firm credentials against the official Financial Services Register and to initiate contact exclusively through verified communication channels. Individuals who suspect they have been approached by this clone entity should report the matter directly to the FCA.
