The UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned consumers about gforex.co.uk, saying the firm is not authorised and may be targeting people in the UK. The regulator says the website may be providing or promoting financial services or products without its permission and advises the public to avoid dealing with the firm. The FCA’s warning identifies the firm as gforex.co.uk and lists an address in Northumberland, a UK mobile number, +44 7476 644588, and the website https://gforex.co.uk. The regulator cautions that unauthorised firms may use incorrect or changing contact details, or details belonging to another business or individual, so consumers should not rely on contact information supplied by the firm to establish that it is legitimate. People who deal with an unauthorised firm will not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service to pursue a complaint and will not be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme if the firm fails. The FCA says eligible payments sent to a scam account on or after 7 October 2024 may be covered by protections introduced by the Payment Systems Regulator. Consumers can check a firm’s authorisation and permitted services using the FCA Firm Checker, and should use the contact details shown there when contacting an authorised business. Anyone who believes they have been approached by an unauthorised firm can report it to the FCA by calling 0800 111 6768 or using the regulator’s contact form.
