The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has warned consumers that Capital Edge Market, which operates through capitaledgemarket.live, is unauthorised and may be targeting people in the UK. The regulator says the firm may be providing or promoting financial services or products without its permission and advises the public to avoid dealing with it and beware of scams. The FCA says almost all firms and individuals must be authorised or registered to provide or promote financial services in the UK. It lists the firm as “Capital Edge Market / capitaledgemarket.live” and gives its website as www.capitaledgemarket.live. The warning also notes that unauthorised firms may use incorrect contact details or details belonging to another business or person, which can make them appear genuine. Consumers who deal with the firm would not have access to the Financial Ombudsman Service to complain and would not be protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) if things go wrong. The FCA says it is unlikely customers would recover their money if the firm went out of business. People who sent money to a fraudster on or after 7 October 2024 may be covered by protections introduced by the Payment Systems Regulator, depending on their circumstances. Before engaging with a financial business, consumers can use the FCA Firm Checker to confirm that it is authorised and permitted to provide the service being offered. The regulator advises people contacted unexpectedly to use the contact details shown in the checker when replying. Anyone who believes they have been approached by an unauthorised firm can contact the FCA on 0800 111 6768 or through its contact form.
