The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has issued an official regulatory alert concerning malicious loss recovery websites targeting consumers and retail investors. Loss recovery schemes commonly target individuals who have previously suffered financial losses from fraudulent trading platforms, unauthorized brokers, or crypto scams. Operators of these malicious recovery sites often pose as legitimate claims specialists, legal experts, or regulatory bodies, promising to trace and retrieve lost funds in exchange for advance administrative fees, taxes, or commission payments. Once the fee is paid, the fraudsters disappear without recovering any assets. Financial regulators remind the public that legitimate supervisory authorities and law enforcement bodies do not contact victims demanding upfront payments or banking credentials to release recovered capital. Investors are strongly advised to exercise extreme caution, verify the regulatory status of any recovery entity via official supervisory registers, and avoid transferring funds or sharing sensitive personal data with unsolicited recovery services. Any encounters with suspicious recovery platforms should be reported immediately to national regulatory authorities.
