SEC and CFTC Announce Agenda and Panelists for Joint Regulatory Harmonization Roundtable

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) have announced the agenda and panelist lineup for their upcoming joint roundtable on regulatory harmonization efforts, scheduled for September 29, 2025. The public event will take place at the SEC headquarters in Washington, D.C., from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will also be broadcast via a live webcast on the SEC's website. The roundtable aims to explore ways the two regulatory agencies can better align oversight frameworks, reduce market friction, and enhance investor safeguards. The session will commence with opening remarks from SEC Chairman Paul Atkins, CFTC Acting Chairman Caroline Pham, and SEC Commissioner Caroline Crenshaw. The first panel, titled "How We Got Here," will explore the history of the inter-agency relationship between the SEC and CFTC. Moderated by former CFTC Chairman J. Christopher Giancarlo, the panel includes representatives from the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA), the Futures Industry Association (FIA), the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA), Vanderbilt University, Delta Strategy Group, and Interactive Brokers. A second panel will address trading and execution platforms, focusing on how regulatory harmonization could unlock economic value while maintaining strong investor protections. Moderated by former CFTC Commissioner Jill Sommers and SEC Division of Trading and Markets Director Jamie Selway, the platform discussion features leadership from Cboe Global Markets, CME Group, Nasdaq, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), Kraken, Polymarket, Kalshi, and DRW Holdings. Following this discussion, SEC Commissioner Mark Uyeda will deliver remarks. The third panel will examine the participant perspective, assessing how coordinated oversight can broaden choices for market participants and decrease costs for investors. Moderated by Giancarlo and former SEC Commissioner Troy Paredes, the panel features executives from Robinhood Markets, Crypto.com, Citadel, WisdomTree, Jump Trading Group, Bank of America, and J.P. Morgan. The event will conclude with remarks from SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce.
