CFTC to Publish Commitments of Traders Report Twice a Week by End-2026
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) plans to increase publication of its Commitments of Traders Report (COT Report) from once to twice a week by the end of 2026, Chairman Michael S. Selig announced on October 27. The change will provide market participants with more frequent information on trading positions and activity in agricultural markets. Under the new schedule, data collected on Monday will be published on Wednesday, while data collected on Wednesday will be released on Friday. Both reports will be published at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time on their respective release days. The revised timetable will reduce the reports’ latency from three days to two days. The expansion follows the CFTC’s recent Request for Comment on the COT Report and responds to feedback from the agricultural community. The reports have provided market transparency for decades and are used to track positioning and activity in futures markets. The CFTC’s Division of Data is leading the implementation effort. The division will use modernization and automation to operationalize the expanded schedule while maintaining the accuracy of the reports. Selig said the twice-weekly publication would make the information stream more useful to market participants.
