CFTC to Launch Public Roundtables on Innovation, Prediction Markets, and Digital Assets
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has announced plans to launch a series of public roundtables focused on evolving trends and market structure innovation. According to an announcement made by CFTC Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham on January 27, 2025, the upcoming sessions will examine key industry issues, including digital assets, prediction markets, affiliated entities, and conflicts of interest in derivatives markets. The initiative follows Pham's continued calls for increased transparency and public engagement regarding the regulator's policy approach. Pham highlighted the need for a forward-looking approach to ensure financial markets remain resilient while protecting participants. She noted that technological innovation has expanded access and introduced new opportunities as well as risks. Through the roundtables, the CFTC intends to build a comprehensive administrative record supported by data, studies, expert reports, and public input. Over the next several months, the agency will consult with industry leaders, market participants, public interest groups, and market structure experts. The CFTC stated that further details regarding the schedule and specific agendas for the roundtable series will be published as they become available.
