CFTC Launches Crypto Sprint to Accelerate Digital Asset Market Framework
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has initiated an agency-wide "crypto sprint" to fast-track the implementation of recommendations from the President’s Working Group on Digital Asset Markets report, Acting Chairman Caroline D. Pham announced. According to the agency, the initiative is designed to provide immediate regulatory clarity and encourage innovation across domestic digital asset markets. As part of this effort, the CFTC will collaborate directly with Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chairman Paul Atkins and SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce to execute "Project Crypto," an inter-agency push aimed at fulfilling the administration's vision for digital assets. The crypto sprint follows a series of digital asset regulatory actions undertaken by the CFTC since January. These measures have included hosting the agency's first-ever Crypto CEO Forum, withdrawing outdated staff advisories, and issuing new regulatory guidance intended to support innovators and entrepreneurs in the sector. The commission has also engaged in discussions regarding a digital asset markets pilot program and participated as an observer in private-sector tokenization initiatives. Market structure updates have also progressed alongside these policy shifts. The CFTC recently concluded a public comment period addressing 24/7 trading and perpetual derivatives. Perpetual derivatives have been active on CFTC-registered designated contract markets (DCMs) since April, with 24/7 trading operating live on registered platforms since May.
