CFTC Announces Departure of Senior Advisor Brigitte Weyls After 17 Years of Service
Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Michael S. Selig has announced that Brigitte Weyls, senior advisor at the agency, will depart the Commission after more than 17 years of public service. Weyls joined the CFTC in August 2008 and contributed to numerous litigation, policy, and rulemaking initiatives. During her tenure, she helped shape regulatory approaches to emerging and complex asset classes, including prediction markets, digital assets, and precious metals. Over the course of her 17-year career with the regulator, Weyls held positions across multiple divisions, including the Division of Enforcement, the Division of Market Oversight, and the Office of the General Counsel. While serving in the Division of Enforcement, she established the agency's Triage Unit, which centralized the intake, evaluation, and prioritization of incoming enforcement referrals and market complaints. Weyls also served as chief counsel to Commissioner Caroline D. Pham and as senior counsel during Pham's time as acting chairman. Additionally, she functioned as the designated federal officer for both the Global Markets Advisory Committee and the Agricultural Advisory Committee. Weyls holds degrees from Denison University and the DePaul University College of Law. In a statement regarding her departure, Chairman Selig commended Weyls for her deep expertise and dedication, noting that her contributions to the Commission have been significant throughout her tenure.
