CFTC Accelerates Publication Schedule for Backlogged Commitments of Traders Data
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission has revised its timeline to eliminate the backlog of Commitments of Traders reports by December 29, 2025.
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced that it is accelerating the publication of Commitments of Traders (COT) reports that were disrupted during a lapse in federal appropriations. Under the updated timeline, the agency expects to eliminate the reporting backlog completely by December 29, 2025.
The revised schedule advances the process by nearly a month compared to the regulator's earlier projection, which anticipated the backlog would not be fully cleared until January 23, 2026.
According to the CFTC, the COT reports will continue to be released in chronological order at an increased publishing frequency to catch up while maintaining data integrity. The regulator noted that this approach aligns with procedures used following previous government shutdowns.
The catch-up schedule began with reports from late September 2025 and is set to return to a standard publishing schedule on December 29, 2025, covering the December 23 report date. Market participants have been advised to monitor the CFTC website for any further schedule updates.
